Blog Post 3: Summarizing the process of a recent project

Before the job started

I met with the client where we went over the basics, which colour scheme to choose, problem area of flaking paint and arranged when the project would work best for both of our schedules.

After around 30 minutes, I had the information necessary to estimate the time required, paint cost, when it could be done in the year and the client was emailed a quote with all that information the following day.

After deciding to proceed with the project, I ordered the bulk of the materials and the colour selection process was simplified because a match of the original colour was requested.

Typically with any colour change, we will bring by a colour swatch so several colours can be viewed against the wall before selecting samples. Samples are then applied to several sections of the house subject to different levels of light because there is often a difference between how the paint looks on the swatch compared to when it is applied to the house. Only when the colour is confirmed as the one does the project begin.

Avoided pitfalls and success

This project started at the very beginning of the season in April and was subject several days of bad weather. To work around this, we make sure the surface is completely dry before resuming. After lightly pressure washing the entire exterior and waiting several days for it to completely dry the project proceeded fairly smoothly. Tricky areas to note were the upper cedar shakes which had been exposed to intense sunlight with about 10 years in between coats of paint. In certain sections the Benjamin Moore stain being used was fully absorbed even after 2 coats. To attain a proper uniform finish, extra paint and coats was needed but ended up not being beyond the typical unanticipated parts you find working on entire homes. There were only a few breaks and the project finish reasonably quickly in about two weeks.

Blog Post 2 – Selecting the Perfect Color Palette for Your Painting Project | Always Prepared Painters

Blog Post 2

As a professional painter, color selection is a crucial aspect of creating visually stunning spaces. The right combination of colors can transform a plain room into a work of art. When it comes to selecting the perfect color palette for your next painting project, there are several factors to consider. Here are some tips to help you choose the right colors for your space.

Be guided by color palettes

  1. One way to ensure a harmonious color scheme is by using color palettes. Color palettes are pre-selected combinations of colors that have been curated by design experts. They provide a starting point for your color selection process and can help you narrow down your options. Look for color palettes that evoke the mood or ambiance you want to create in your space.
  2. Consider the room’s purpose and function
  3. Contrast is where your vibrant and upbeat side comes out. This is a more dramatic way of color matching. This scheme involves a triad of color combinations that might go well together, but aren’t necessarily belonging to the same color families.

Experiment with color samples

Before committing to a color, it’s essential to test it out first. Purchase sample jars of the paint colors you’re considering and apply them to small areas of the walls. This will allow you to see how the colors look in different lighting conditions and how they interact with the other elements in the room. Take your time to observe the samples and decide which colors work best for your space.

When it comes to selecting paint colors, it’s always a good idea to experiment with samples before making a final decision. Paint a small portion of your wall or obtain color swatches to get a better idea of how the colors will look in your space. Natural and artificial lighting can significantly impact the appearance of colors, so it’s essential to test them out in various lighting conditions.
